Last week, the Orban government sent out its National Consultation on the issue of immigration to Hungarian citizens. The professed intention of this questionnaire is to gather an accurate representation of the public’s opinion about how the government should set up its immigration policy. To anyone reading this consultation it will become immediately clear that this campaign is a vicious piece of xenophobic propaganda. It consciously violates all standards of good practice in opinion polls, contains biased answering options, undermines democratic decision making, and aims to grow fear and xenophobia in Hungarian society by false accusations about migrants.
We do not pay taxes for finance xenophobic propaganda.
We do not accept that migration and terrorism are arbitrarily tied together.
We will not pretend that this consultation is a way to represent the public's opinion.
Therefore, let’s gather together to show that we don't accept the national consultation!
Take your (and your friends’) consultation letters with you, and come to Deak square on Tuesday, 6:30pm. The demonstration begins from Deak square, will continue to the Danube, and end next to the parliament. The details of the route will be updated in the FB event.
At the climax of the demonstration we have an exciting origami-workshop, involving the national consultation letters and the Danube. Make sure to bring your copy, and many friends with you!
