Mno.hu, like other media, published the MTI news about the statement from Sándor Pintér (Minister of Interior) regarding the camp in Vámosszabadi. He had met representatives from the village who demanded the immediate closure of the camp. However, he stressed that due to the ‘migration pressure’ the camp will stay open, though still as a temporary camp. In exchange, he promised the following to the locals: there will be more patrolling police, more buses will run between the camp and Győr, they support the extension of the security camera system, and also they are thinking about the possibility of building a bicycle road between the Slovak border and Győr. The new phase of negotiations between the ministry and the locals will take place next summer.
Kisalföld.hu writes about the situation in Vámosszabadi ahead of the meeting between the locals and Sándor Pintér, the Minister of Interior. The article is based on an interview with the new mayor who believes they were elected is that they were campaigning against the camp. This is why they have to ‘fight for its closure’. She also complains that altogether 2500 refugees have been put up in the camp while the local population of the village is 1600. Right now, apparently there are 250 migrants in the camp even though the capacity is 210. Furthermore, she complains that most of the promises given by the Ministry were not fulfilled.
Kisalföld.hu writes about how nice students from the Benedectine school are because they collected all this money for the refugee families in the camp even if the camp is a ‘swear word’ around Győr. The money will be spent on winter clothes and educational supplies — also the children with the ‘sparkling eyes’ received gifts at the event. The article focused more on the goodness of the Hungarians than on the problems and the needs of the refugees themselves.
Kisalföld.hu writes about how the dead person found on a corn field in Vámosszabadi is a 20-year-old refugee from Guinea but no more details are known.
Hvg.hu reports Győr police stopped a car with 13 Kosovars, 7 of whom were children that were travelling on the way to Slovakia. They were all from Vámosszabadi camp, according to the Serbian driver he picked them up at the camp and their ultimate destination was to be Germany. Check out the photo.
Kisalfold.hu reports that Jobbik political party wants to close the Vámosszabadi refugee camp. Based on the initiative from its Győr branch, Jobbik has submitted a proposal for modification in the budget of 2014 to the Parliament which could make the closure possible. The article posts the statement of two Jobbik candidates in Győr about how groups of refugees scare people and talk to women in the street, also asking other Győr politicians to support their proposal.
Kisalföld.hu writes about a Nigerian asylum-seeker who had his court case in Győr this week. The article is surprisingly sympathetic, it summarizes his story and mentions that he has a Hungarian girlfriend who would even follow him to Nigeria if it was necessary. The article asks if it matters to the court if he has found love here. According to the verdict, there has to be a new legal procedure because of mistakes in the previous one. In the last sentence of the article his lawyer is quoted: ‘He who wins time will win life’. (Check out the photos in the article)
