Some time ago, wondering about the twists and turns of the Hungarian language, we asked whether the word “hatarserto” (border offender) makes any sense. So the border is offended, or the border feels offended, or who exactly is offended when we attack a border by brutally - hold your breath - stepping across, perhaps without a visa? The BORDERPOL conference in Budapest gives us an answer. Not only are borders offended, but they are, and should be, managed.
These three days, “border management experts” have gathered in Budapest to discuss the future of how borders, these precious babies, should be treated. Why attend?
